My dogs are all rescues - I make a point of adopting those that are considered difficult for various reasons. They've been roughly-socialized, and as such they're aggressive and difficult to get along with.
He's exactly as you described him - his owner was mostly negligent and he was picked up off the street. He's by default aggressive to everyone, humans and dogs, but I somehow managed to get on his tolerant side while volunteering at the shelter.
He's mostly keeps to himself nowadays, but regular meals and treats do help.
Mine tend to be more aggressive toward humans than other dogs - they tolerate each other well, and by now they tolerate me more than they do anyone else.
I'd include a lot more animals in that group. Birds, the soft ones, not necessarily birds of prey. The less violent ones. They're just as wonderful in a different way.

I'm curious about Iggy, however.

I find it rewarding in its own way, honestly.
