[Time for him to get to work. He keeps his pencils in his satchel, so it's only an issue of crawling into a pocket. It's still an strenuous task so early in the morning, but nothing like climbing onto a desk--
His birds. The cage is on top of the stand. The food is stored on the floor.]
[The next reply doesn't come for nearly fifteen minutes, as Tuuri stares at her desk in alarm before eventually scaling the bookshelf to get on top of it, finds a pencil (now the size of a staff) and starts trying to work the eraser out of the top.]
I was able to write about a sentence with the pencil lead, but that's about all I can do. A sweater is a good idea, though. I'll bring pieces of the lead and some paper down with me. When I figure out how to get down. It feels a lot taller than I thought it would.
That's good. I could also write notes at work if I manage to get there on time.
I wonder if "turning small" is a valid excuse for arriving late.
[Now more importantly, how to reach the cage? Use string? Climb onto the birdseed bag and jump? If there were more drawers on the stand, he could use those as stairs...
He pockets the phone, removes his socks, and being scaling the plastic bag.]
I think it depends on if everyone else is small too.
AND if the people at work notice that it's strange.
...Are you going to be able to work at all, actually?
Oh shoot, am I going to be able to work at all? I have to carry bags of food and bottles and things! [she writes, perfectly oblivious to what he's doing right this second]
[There's no response. Mohammed is too busy reaching into the birdseed, wrapping it up in his sweater, and pulling himself onto the stand. This isn't enough to feed all four of the budgies, he tells himself as he pours in the first batch into the feeder.
Before climbing down again, he checks his phone.]
I don't drive, so I'll take the bus again. I'll just ask for a ramp.
[Down he goes for more food. He's going to be so late for work.]
Of course, I'm sure they'll have something like that. Just please be careful approaching the cars! And let me know if you see anything else that's weird!
[and thus Tuuri is off to do her much more leisurely morning routine, totally unaware of how lucky she has it.]
[Down again he goes, then up. Down and up. Everyone must be fed. No fruit for them today, sadly, until he finds a way to reach the kitchen counter. They can't be let out to fly if they're not going to have a full diet. Cleaning the cage will be a nightmare.
Life as a tiny person wouldn't be so bad if it didn't mean his budgies will suffer.]
